The IBC has remained committed to the ideals of cultural awareness and civic service upon which it was founded.  Each year the IBC  Foundation, a 501 (c) (3)  organization, provides scholarships for students of Italian heritage. 

In 2019, the foundation awarded 4 scholarships of $1750 each.

IBC Foundation scholarship criteria

 The applicant must complete an application and the following;

  1. Be  accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning, within or  outside the State of Oregon, and     have agreed to attend (in the case  of freshmen). In the case of upper class students, be enrolled in such  an institution.
  2.  Submit  official high school or college transcripts of attended classes through  the month of December prior to the year the scholarship is awarded.
  3.  Have a Grade Point Average of 3.5 or above out of 4.0 (or equivalent).
  4.  Be a resident of the State of Oregon and a United States citizen.
  5. Be of “Italian American” decent with at least one ancestor that can be certified to have emigrated from Italy.
  6. Submit two letters of recommendation from teachers of professors.
  7.  Submit a current resume outlining extracurricular activities, work experience and volunteer services.
  8. Submit  a 500 to 750 work essay related to how the Italian language, culture or  heritage has had an impact on the applicant’s life and values.
  9. Extra  consideration will be given to an applicant who attests on the  application that he or she is the first in his or her family to attend  college.

           10.  Former scholarship winners may apply in successive years if they continue to meet the

Scholarship scoring

Each IBC Foundation Board member gives a numerical score to each candidate based upon the following

  •  0 to 4 Points are awarded for each of the following:


                        academic achievement, 

                        extracurricular involvement, 

                        each of the two  recommendation letters.

  • 0 to 8 points are awarded for the essay

  • Italian lineage (surname) is verified

The IBC Foundation had it's largest number of scholarship  applications for 2019.  Narrowing down an outstanding field of applicants was  difficult and so the board decided to award four scholarships. Each student will receive $1750.00 towards their  selected school.
